Research Your History specialises in Great War Research. If you require any research into this conflict then Research Your History will be your first choice. We offer several inclusive packages. All we require is as much information you possess. This may be just a name, this in many cases is enough information but please note that if it is a popular surname, we may require further information.
The Cost
Rather than purchasing research “credits” like many other companies for a set amount of time, we want to provide you with the best results for your money; therefore we will research a topic as far as we can. As far as cost is concerned there is no need to worry, we set the price according to the research you require this could be as little as £10 for a “look up” to get you started or one of excellent and detailed, Research Your History Military Packages. We will want to know your Research Outcomes, this will enable us to put together a realistic quote, we don’t charge for travel, and therefore you only pay for your research.

There many other sources that will also be searched as a matter of professional competence and sound historical research. These will be included where relevant.
The Burnt Series
Unfortunately the Luftwaffe in the Second World War was to destroy many of the Great War Service records of soldiers and Non Commissioned Officers. We will carry out an extensive search but be prepared that you ancestors service record may have been destroyed.
Presentation of Reports
Reports will be sent in hard copy and CD format as standard. There is the option of a professional printing and binding service which makes an ideal gift. This will be chargeable after the research has been complete. Please mention this when requesting a quote.

Package 1
This package is designed either to help you get started or find more information on a soldier that gave his life for his country.
- Information on the Regiment in which he served including a photograph of an Original Cap Badge
- Medal Index card and details of the medals he was awarded.
- Data from Soldiers Died Great War and Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Applicable if your ancestor made the supreme sacrifice.
- A search of his Unit’s War Diary held in the WO 95 series at the National Archives and an excerpt of the day he died.
- A search of our extensive digital records, including photographs, regimental histories and post cards.
- A small report summarising all the above information and any other points of interest discovered in the course of our research.
Fees: The cost of Package 1 is £45.00
Package 2
This Package is designed to take your research a step further.It includes all the information contained in Package 1 plus the following:
- A search for surviving service records from the National Archives. If these are available copies will be obtained.
- A search for surviving pension records from the National Archives.
- Detailed excerpts from the Units War Diary.
- A search for any trench maps showing the area, in which your ancestor died, gained a gallantry decoration or fought in a major battle.
- Contact will be made with your Ancestors Regiment and a search of the archives completed if possible , a donation will made on your behalf to the relevant regimental Association. (This is included in the fee)
- A report containing a much more detailed analysis of your soldier’s service.
Fees: The cost of Package 1 is £90.00
Package 3
This Package is designed to provide you with as much information as possible. This will include a suggested itinerary and details for your own battlefield tour in the fields in which he fought. All the information contained in Packages 1 and 2 plus the following:
- A full search of other historical records and archives.
- Excerpts from Regimental Histories where possible.
- An extremely detailed report containing every aspect of your soldier’s service including details of the part him and his regiment played in the Great War this will include a copies of modern maps annotated to allow you to “trace your ancestor’s footsteps”.
Fees: The cost of Package 1 is £175.00
